I always thought of them as Punk Rockers.
They made this toon even worse when they turned the Battletoads into surf rock dudes instead of a trio of bad ass hard rockers (or metalheads), that was the original personality they show in the video games.

What? Shitty voice acting is a perfectly legitate reason to hate a cartoon. And this cartoon was only from the early 90s although its animated like it was made in the 70s on a low budget. And even back in the 90s slang was never that absurd. This is how cartoons were back then? Have you ever seen a 90s cartoon in your life? Oh wait, I see what you mean. Batman TAS was just like this.
